Seattle Man Sentenced for Child Sexual Exploitation Using Internet

Adams/Broomfield County District Attorney Don Quick announced today that Patrick Loomis (dob: 06/07/1966) was sentenced to jail and intensive supervision probation for exposing himself on the internet to a police officer posing as a 13 year old girl.

On June 23, 2010 an Adams County Sheriff’s Deputy, portraying herself as a 13-year-old female, was conducting a standard online investigation using Yahoo Instant Messenger. At approximately 8:20 PM, a man instant messaged the deputy and quickly invited her to view his web camera. The deputy accepted the invitation and observed a white male masturbating. He learned the “victim” was 13 and continued to communicate with her. In later conversations, the deputy, posing separately as a 35 year old woman and the 13 year old, learned that the man was Patrick Loomis from Seattle Washington. After multiple exchanges with the deputy, via internet, cellular text and phone, Loomis arranged to come to Denver for a sexual encounter with the 35 year old persona, but also indicated to the teen persona his interest in seeing her. Loomis was arrested on June 25, 2010 in an apartment used for undercover operations in Adams County.

“The internet is a feeding ground for child predators. These people are on the computer every night preying on our children. We all need to be more diligent in protecting our kids,” says Quick. “This case is also an example of how you never know who you’re talking to on the internet. It could be a 13 year old or a police officer.”

Loomis plead guilty to Sexual Exploitation of a Child (F6) on May 3, 2010. Adams County District Judge Francis Wasserman sentenced Loomis to five years of sex offender intensive probation, offense specific treatment, substance abuse evaluation and treatment and 30 days in the Adams County jail to begin being served immediately.
