According to the 20-count indictment handed down in March, Friel stole property from individuals, businesses and golf courses located in Arvada, Boulder, Brighton, Broomfield, Erie, Golden, Lakewood, Longmont and Westminster between November 2009 and June 2010. In each instance, Friel disabled or tampered with security systems or other security measures to gain access to the golf courses and the items he stole.
The Office of the Attorney General investigated and prosecuted Friel in cooperating with the Broomfield Police Department and the Adams County District Attorney.
Friel’s sentence will be served concurrently with a 15-year prison sentence he received in a related case in Arapahoe County.
