Commerce City Police Update on Reunion Area Attack

COMMERCE CITY ― On May 15, 2012 at about 2:20 p.m., Officers from the Commerce City Police Department were called to the area of East 104th Avenue and Landmark Drive in reference to an assault.

When officers arrived on scene and began to investigate they learned the assault occurred in the restroom located along the Second Creek Trail. The victim who is an 18 year old male initially stated he was assaulted by three males with pipes, and one of them may have been armed with a gun.

Due to the time, proximity, and a possibility of armed suspect(s) in the area Second Creek Elementary School was placed on lock down. Two Commerce City Police Department School Resource Officers were at the school while they lock down was in effect. Officers quickly checked the area for the suspects and were unable to locate them. The school was on lock down for approximately twenty minutes and the students were released. Officers remained in the area during the students release. Second Creek Elementary notified parents of the “Lockout” utilizing their auto-dialer system.

Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded and began an investigation. As of May 22, 2012,

The Commerce City Police Department have conducted interviews and other investigative tasks in reference to this case. The Commerce City Police Department does not believe this was a random act of violence or an attempted murder. The victim did not receive serious injuries and was released from the hospital that same day. The community is not believed to be any danger and it is believed that the incident was isolated.
