Justin Michael Taylor (dob: 1/07/87) was found guilty of Child Abuse Resulting in Death for the death of his six month old son.
The ruling was announced by District Attorney Don Quick.
Case History: On February 2, 2009, Julian Adams-Lacas (dob: 7/13/08), a special needs child born with a bilateral cleft palate, suffered a severe head injury while in the care of his father, Justin Taylor. Taylor initially blamed the victim’s 18-month old sister for the head injuries, asserting that she had run into her brother and dropped a book on his head. Taylor later stated he dropped the child before eventually admitting to having thrown the child to the ground. The baby died 3 days later on February 5, 2009.
Child Abuse Resulting in Death carries a sentence of 8-24 years. However, because Taylor was on felony probation at the time of the offense, he is facing 16-48 years in prison. Taylor will be sentenced on August 11, 2010, at 8:30 AM in Adams County District Court, Division E, pending a pre-sentence investigation and report.
