Child Abuse Resulting in Death in Adams County

According to court records, an Adams County grand jury indicted Melinda Hudson last week for child abuse knowingly or recklessly causing death and child abuse negligently causing death, both felonies.

Adams County Coroner Jim Hibbard said an autopsy could not determine the cause and manner of death. Dr. Patrick Allen said the male child was a near-term or term fetus but he was unable to tell whether it was still-born or a newborn.

The remains of the baby were mummified and left in a soft-sided suitcase containing various items of clothing, towels and paper towels. The coroner's report also indicated there was different kinds of trash in the suitcase including fast food containers and other "debris" including dead insects.
