Westminster Woman Sentenced for Death of Her Newborn

Adams/Broomfield District Attorney Don Quick announced today Melinda Hudson (dob: 05/01/1985) was sentenced in connection to the death of her newborn son.

The baby was found deceased in a bag in the basement of Hudson’s home on March 10, 2010 by Hudson’s father. Hudson’s father noticed a foul odor coming from the basement and located a bag in the corner. Upon opening the bag, he detected what appeared to be the remains of a human body.

Hudson, in the company of her parents, turned herself into the Westminster Police Department shortly after the discovery of the body. Information suggests that the baby was born at or near full term on or about October 2009.

An Adams County Grand Jury indicted Hudson on July 22, 2010. She plead guilty to Criminally Negligent Child Abuse Causing Death (F3) on August 6, 2010.

Adams County District Court Judge Vincent Phelps sentenced Hudson to eight years in Adams County Community Corrections to include therapy and substance abuse treatment.
