UPDATE: Investigators determined the substance leaking from the barrels was a petroleum-based product and was not threatening to those in the area. The Adams County Sheriffs Department who like to talk to the individuals who were in the area at the time when the incident happened.
A HAZ-MAT situation is forcing the evacuation of a 3-mile area in Commerce City in the area of 80th Avenue and Rosemary Street. Reported a unknown substance is leaking from a barrel.
The Adams County Sheriff said it received a call about an odor in the area around 4:30 p.m. Deputies and firefighters searching for the source of the odor said they saw some people in an abandoned chemical refinery and saw several barrels outside leaking liquid. This prompted a reverse 911 call to 210 Commerce City Residents.
The evacuation is in effect for the Irondale neighborhood and includes an area between East 80th and 86th avenues and between Monaco and I-76.
The Red Cross is responding to the HAZ-MAT spill and has set up an evacuation center at DuPont Elementary School at 7970 Kimberly Street.
Union Pacific Railroad confirms their train tracks run through the area, but said the HAZ-MAT is not involving a train or their tracks. One train has been stopped on the tracks because of the spill.

A Shooting Claims the life of 18 year old Dijoun Quinn... COMMERCE CITY - The Commerce City Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred in the 6500 block of Holly St. Officers responded to a report of shots being fired in the area. When they arrived they found a male lying on the ground. It appears that an 18 year old male was walking southbound on Holly St when he was shot multiple times. The male was transported to the hospital but did not survive his injuries. Commerce City police identified the 18-year-old as Dijoun Quinn, a recent graduate of Adams City High School who had enlisted in the Army. Quinn's Grandfather says his grandson didn't have any enemies and was not in a gang. There is no suspect information available at this time, and investigators are encouraging anyone with information to contact Detective Bryan VanderMeer at 303-289-3629 or the Commerce City Tip Line at 303-289-3626. The investigation is ongoing and more information will be released as it becomes available.
