Juan Carlos Lopez Sentenced to 48 years in Commerce City Killing

On July 28, 2009, Detectives from the Commerce City Police Department presented this case to the Adams County Districts Attorney’s Office. During that filing the Adams County Districts Attorney’s Office filed formal charges on then 28 year old Juan Carlos Lopez for the murder of Dung Le who was shot to death on June 3, 2009, inside the Dollar Value Plus store he owned and operated in Commerce City.

Juan Carlos Lopez entered a guilty plea to second-degree murder on November 5th. Lopez has been to serve a sentence of 48 years in prison.

Lopez also faced a first-degree murder charge for a case in Denver that happened shortly after the Commerce City killing. In the Denver case, Lopez killed Stephen Ramirez during a fight. He also tried to hire someone to kill the victim’s mother, who had witnessed the crime.

Regarding the Denver case the judge sentenced Lopez to 72 years in prison for second degree murder and solicitation to commit murder.

  3. I would think 2 murders and 1 conspiracy to commit murder would call for the death penalty.
