Suspected driver in Thornton fatal crash given probation 2 days prior

UPDATE: Thornton police said Saturday they had ruled out drugs and alcohol as a cause in the Feb. 17 crash that killed a family of five.

The woman accused of causing a car crash in Thornton that killed a family of five was sentenced to probation two days before the fatal accident.

Court records show that Monica Chavez, 33, pleaded guilty on Tuesday in Adams County Court to a misdemeanor assault charge, stemming from an incident in which she allegedly waved a knife at a group of women. Chavez was sentenced to two years of probation, court records show and her public defender in the case confirmed today. Full Story at Denver Post CLICK HERE
