Brighton Collegiate teacher fired after possible "allegations of an improper relationship"

The Board of Directors of Brighton Collegiate High School informed School District 27J on October 29 that they had been alerted by a student to the possibility that a teacher had engaged in inappropriate behavior with a student at Brighton Collegiate.

In a letter dated Tuesday, November 3, the Board of Education of Brighton Collegiate High School informed parents of students at the school that they had investigated the situation. The letter states, in part, “We have concluded that there may have been inappropriate conduct on the part of the teacher, and that the teacher’s employment has been terminated. We have no reason to believe that the relationship was sexual, but it was inappropriate and will not be tolerated.”

As the chartering authority for Brighton Collegiate High School, School District 27J takes an active and concerned interest in the operations of the school. 27J has a record of strong, positive relationships with the charter schools in the district, and the y educate approximately a fifth of the students in the district.

The School District 27J Board of Education will be meeting in executive session on Tuesday November 10 to discuss contractual issues with regard to Brighton Collegiate Charter High School. They may determine at that time that further action is warranted.

In 27J, nothing is more important than the safety of our students, no matter what school they attend.

Brighton police confirm they received the "allegations of an improper relationship" Oct. 30. Police say they cannot say who the teacher is or give any other details about the investigation.
