Update to Fatal Semi-Truck Accident

COMMERCE CITY ― The Commerce City Police Department has concluded its investigation into the May 27th double semi-truck accident that claimed the lives of both drivers.

Daniel Seilheimer (41) of Colorado Springs, and George Mendoza (52) of Adams County, were the two drivers involved in the crash that occurred in the 7500 block of Quebec Parkway in Commerce City.

It was determined through the investigation that Daniel Seilheimer, a driver for England Trucking, was southbound Quebec Parkway. He failed to maintain control of his bobtail tractor and crossed over the raised median, colliding head-on with Waste Management driver George Mendoza. Both trucks caught on fire immediately, and both drivers died at the scene.

Further investigation and toxicology reports found that Daniel Seilheimer was under the influence of marijuana at the time of the accident, and his ability to safely operate a motor vehicle was significantly impaired. It has not been determined if Daniel Seilheimer had a medical marijuana license, however Colorado State Statute prohibits the operation of any motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, to include medical marijuana.

The case was presented to the Adams County District Attorney, and the findings of the investigation were determined to be accurate.
