At approximately 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, August 24, 2010, a Brighton police officer assigned to Prairie View High School (PVHS), in Brighton, received information about suspicious noises coming from a student’s locker. When the officer investigated the matter, he discovered the locker had an ‘Explosives’ placard affixed to the outside, and contained a variety of electronic components, which were connected by wires and emitting an alarm-like beeping sound. School officials were notified of the discovery, and they elected to initiate an immediate precautionary evacuation of students.
Two PVHS students were questioned about the incident and released. The investigation revealed that no bomb threats were made to either police or school officials, and the electronics were determined to be a home-made battery charger one of the students had built. During the course of the investigation, the school was thoroughly searched with the assistance of the Adams County Sheriff’s Department, and no explosives were found.
