Firefighters battle high winds to extinguish house fire

BRIGHTON--Fire crews were called to a house fire in the 28000 block of E 162nd Court at 1:41pm on Friday, December 3rd. The first crews arrived at 1:48 pm, the fire was under control at 2:37 pm.

When crews arrived on scene, they found a large 2 story home with heavy fire in the rear of the house and the 2nd floor. High winds contributed to rapid fire spread and slowed the extinguishment efforts by firefighters.

Four GBFPD engines, one GBFPD battalion vehicle, two GBFPD water tenders, one Platte Valley Ambulance, one Platte Valley battalion vehicle, one Thornton fire engine, and one Thornton battalion vehicle were all eventually on the scene of this fire. GBFPD had a total of 13 firefighters and one Battalion Chief on scene. Platte Valley Ambulance had two paramedics and one EMT, and Thornton Fire had 3 firefighters and one Battalion Chief on scene. Thornton Fire was released from the scene at 3:30 when the fire was reported out. Brighton crews stayed behind to continue to check hot spots or any smoldering areas to ensure the fire would not re-ignite.

Two members of the four person family were home at the time of the fire, but were both out when fire crews arrived.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation at this time.

There were no civilian or fire fighter injuries during this fire. COCAT, home restoration, was called in to fence off the area around the home. The family will not be able to continue to live in the home at this time.
