Commerce City Police Department conducts camp for youths

The Commerce City Police Department is offering a unique, behind-the-scenes look at their profession to local youths age 11 to 14. Held in conjunction with the Parks & Recreation Department, the Police Camp for Teens is a three-day, two-night adventure into the world of law enforcement.

Members of the Commerce City Police Department will teach various classes during the camp including sessions on crime scene investigations, working with K-9 units and traffic accident investigations. Participants will also be able to experience a firearms training simulator, take part in mock building searches and learn about SWAT units.

Transportation to the camp site northwest of Fort Collins leaves from the Recreation Center at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, July 27, and returns Friday, July 29, for a 4 p.m. graduation ceremony at the Civic Center.

Deadline to register is Friday, July 22, and the cost is $40 for residents and $50 for non-residents. To register, call 303-289-3674.
